Yi Li (born in China, living in Australia since 2012) is a public and visual art curator based on Wurundjeri Country. Her curatorial practice foregrounds cross-cultural interconnections in discussions of social constructs, and local and global injustices. She engages with artistic voices that critically interrogate invisible or overlooked forms of inequality, as well as the ramifications of social and political change and intervention. Working across gallery and outdoor, unconventional spaces, she is committed to platforming artists whose work speaks to lived experience, critical resistance, and quiet transformation. Her methodology is grounded in research, long-term engagement, and conscious collaboration with artists and communities, recognising curating as a relational practice built upon ethics, trust, and responsiveness.
Yi has developed and delivered public art commissions, exhibitions, and community arts programs across Melbourne and regional NSW. Alongside her independent practice, she has held curatorial and arts roles in Footscray Community Arts, Wyndham City Council, Albury City Council, and the University of Melbourne’s art museums.
